Volunteers make it happen - April Work Day

Poly tunnel

Maintaining Darkley House and the grounds is a major challenge and Crossfire Trust would not be able to function without the help and support of volunteers.

Each month a Work Day is scheduled and volunteers come from near and far to help with whatever tasks need to be done.

The Work Day on Saturday 5th April was a resounding success. Fantastic weather enabled jobs, which had previously been delayed due to bad weather, to be completed including the repainting of the front gates and repairing many of the windows of Darkley House.

Other jobs completed were the rebuilding of the poly tunnel in the Peace Garden, which will be used to grow vegetables for the residents of the Care Programme, laying gravel on the garden paths and drive, clearing out the gutters and mowing the grass.

Volunteers came from as far as Belfast and were joined by a group from the Southgate Christian Fellowship, over from London for the weekend, and four guys from the Bruderhof Community in East Sussex, England also over for the weekend to volunteer at Crossfire Trust.

Ian Bothwell, Director of Crossfire Trust said, "It is great to see so much work completed in one day. We could not survive without the help of volunteers, who give up of their own time to help in the ongoing work of Crossfire Trust."
